About Moonkissedsews.com
I was very fortunate to be raised by my grandparents, as my grandmother was a seamstress and taught me everything she knew about sewing. As a young girl, I started out making patterns and sewing doll clothes. By high school, I was making my own clothes, everything from jackets, vests, skirts, dresses, and pants. By college, I branched out to fiber art and had a new interest in learning different sewing techniques, such as couching, appliqué, cutwork, pin tucking, trapunta, heirloom sewing, weaving, and seminole patchwork, which has always been a favorite of mine. Quilting came later, and enabled me to learn about color and many new techniques.
My grandmother also taught me to knit at age five. I started out knitting scraves, then graduated to slippers, mittens, and sweaters. Oh, and did I tell you my grandmother was also an oil painter! She also passed that talent to me, and I went from oil painting, to watercolor, then to tole painting. I also was involved in other arts & crafts, such as wood carving, macrame, and strained glass (having a stained glass studio in my basement).
Then, in the late 80's, besides picking up quilting, I developed an interest and taught myself to free hand machine embroider (since there were no home embroidery machines on the market). From there, I taught myself to digitize my own embroidery motifs, as well as, use many of the wonderful software packages that make our hobbies so much easier. such as, embroidery stitch editor, embroidery customization, embroidery resizing, EQ5, EQ6, and now kaleidoscope packages.
I have also been involved in home dec projects which include custom drapes and valances, custom bedspreads, pillows ( a great canvas to display many techniques), upholstered furniture, and the upholstering of an entire set of boat seats.
Although, I have spent many years in the corporate world, my passion has always been the love of sewing and fiber art using embellishing and specialty techniques. If it could be done with a needle and thread, than I've probably done the technique!
Thank you grandmother for teaching me so much and sharing your passion!
